Enchanted Summer Days

Enchanted Summer Days

Enchanted by the freedom of the holidays
In blissful abandonment she runs bare foot upon the soft seashore
Brings shells to her ear while
White capped waves wash her feet
21st century child enthralled by nature’s gift of dewy sea spray kisses on her cheeks
Head on one side she spells out words
Carelessly scrawled by someone who has passed this way
Lovers’ comments she yet doesn’t grasp the meaning of
She kneels, builds castles with high turrets to a design only she fathoms
Knee deep in moist sand she scrapes from the earth
Motes with imaginary swell
Protection for a fairytale princess
High behind her castle walls

Her dog Bella watching from grassy knoll
Knows intuitively not to scamper through the creation of her dreams
She laughs
Runs, arms outstretched
Turns in circles
Sings loudly in competition with screeching swooping gulls
Stretches out on the sand and makes angels shapes with her arm and legs.
Joy personified
Enchanted by summer holidays
