A Woman’s Place

A Woman’s Place

I’m glad that times have changed today
From the poverty of the larder bare
The gas mantle and the Tilly Lamp
A woman’s role to see to all
Regardless of the meagre faire

Mothers had no need of purses
The rattle of coins an absent accessory
Woman have evolved
From the dresser bare
Painted pretty as a work of art
A piece of jewellery on a male arm

And yet beneath the façade of glam
Lurks the gas mantle and the Tilly lamp
In the shadows
A woman’s place
Still there…
