Finding Your Peace

Finding Your Peace

An old but very beautiful poem by Patience Strong

My thanks to local Photographer Sean Crawford for use of his image of the River Deele Co Donegal

Photo Credit Sean Crawford Photographer Sion Mills N Ireland

When the sparkle is gone from life and

You are feeling down – get away

from  all the dust and turmoil of the town.

Find some green and quiet place to rest your

heart and mind. Do not take your worries with you:

Leave them all behind.

Walk some lost and lonely track that

Leads you know not where – breathing in

the freshness of the good clean country air.

Seek the soothing sights and sounds of

meadows, wood and lane.  Be alone with

Nature and you’ll find your peace again.

The Squirrel

The Squirrel

My Thanks to Sean Crawford,Photographer, Co Tyrone, Ireland for allowing me to use his amazing photography

I found this poem about the red squirrel on the inter net

Sets off  Sean Crawford;s great photo  to a tee

Whisky, frisky,
Hippity hop;
Up he goes
To the tree top!

Whirly, twirly,
Round and round,
Down he scampers
To the ground.

Furly, curly
What a tail!
Tall as a feather
Broad as a sail!

Where’s his supper?
In the shell,
Snappity, crackity,
Out it fell.

The Dwellin’ Place

The Dwellin’ Place

A torn net curtain dressed in

Cobweb splendour

Its flowery pattern

Still daintily pretty against the

Small reflective panes

An empty dwellin’ place without

Her hand to clean and care for it

Mode of transport caresses the snowcem

Often on its handlebars she journeyed

Until we reached the railway crossing

Then fear of the wagging tongues

Bade her walk sedately

The next mile to town

On our return

The dynamo’s flickering light

Cast shadows of the night

Across the path of the old bike

Until the mouth of the lane

With it rutted terrain came into sight

The smell of the peat fire scented

The quiet gloamin’

Smoke weaving heavenwards

Welcomed us home like an old friend

The door knocker – an antique now

It’s a while since its creaking opening

Received a letter from America

The treasured stamp displaying prosperity

Recounting the letter’s content

When the wind howled around

The gavel end rattling the bike’s chain

Stealing the slates in its childish tantrum

An empty dwellin’ without her hand

To clean and care for it

The Dame In Spain

The Dame In Spain

I met a bejewelled dame on a train in Spain

She was the a clone of my brother Liam

She viewed me considerably

Then disembarked first opportunity

Could she be my sibling dame?

An Irish Wish

An Irish Wish

May Irish eyes behold you

May the music of the Harp elate you

May the whiskey softly sooth you

May the Fiddler’s sweet melodic whispering

Find you in good company

And may the touch of an Irish colleen

Save you from the fairies meddling

A little learning

She said it could be you and me
Fool I was to be so naive
She says that to all the girls
A little learning
Goes a long way
I will not be fooled again
But if she should return
And say it could be me and you again…
What then?

Share Our Space I Say

Diversity is our saving grace

No longer do we need to

Live divided

In this place

Mixed cultures bring prosperity

Add new colours to old ways

Is this progress I hear you sigh?

Are we to be a melting pot now?

No! No one can take

Our culture away

Embracing other customs

Will strengthen our unity

So let’s embrace diversity

Today and the days to come

LOVE IS…

LOVE IS

Moon shining on soft sighing water

Flipping a coin in the fountain of romance

Sensation of lips savouring

Scent of two bodies entwining

Thrill of first step on a mountain summit

Letter To Unwanted Newborn Daughter

Letter to unwanted newborn daughter

baby-girl

You were born against my will

I would have been rid of you if I could

Now you are born

My child

My lovely one

The greatest blessing

I have ever known

Your birth mended a wounded bird

Pieced together a fragmented girl

I have a heart now

That loves instead of hates

I smile now

Where once I scowled and threatened

A bond I seek with you little one

Strong with ties of love unbroken

And yet guilt assails me

Your eyes so wise for one so young

Don’t judge me I beg of you

I knew not what I was thinking

My angel child listens carefully

Learn early to let go of hate

Don’t carry it like a trophy you’ve win

Your father I see in your face

Don’t like me

Like him

Be afraid to lov

AN ANGEL CALLED SCAMMER

AN ANGEL CALLED SCAMMER

AN ANGLE CALLED SCAMMER

Oh to have a little house
With glowing hearth and fireside bright
On a cold and dreary winter’s night
Home sweet home is my delight

But if a foot should softly tread
A chill would travel down my being

Then I would tremble in my chair
And with cowards’ courage I’d ask who’s there?

Tis’ I, a soft voice would then replied
Reminisce of years gone
A longing in my soul to hear once more
Yes. A voice I know so very well

“What brings you here? Pray do tell”
To keeps you safe… it is God’s command.
Deadlocks cannot keep me afar
I am part of you I will always be near

Generations have come and gone
My face in the flames you see it still
I am the shadow on the wall
And the chime of the clock that stands in the hall

I will comfort you when the fire dwindles
When ashes disintegrate
Stealing the light and the heat

Do not tremble .Do not fear
Trust me. Be brave
Locked doors cannot keep me from you
Sweet lady
I bring you peace. I bring you love
Let your heart warm to my voice

It’s I who gently takes your hand
I am your Guardian Angel
From Heaven above
Close your eyes feel the fire’s flame
Hear my soft footfall draw nearer…

Oh, to have a little house.
To own the hearth and stool
Turf piled against the wall
Home Sweet Home
My delight with an angel guiding from above
Watching over all I love.

There! The step again – nearer still
Awake! My slumbering sentiment
Was that footstep in my fantasising?
Scurry to bed from the fire’s flame bewitchment

Sleep well my dear
A trickster has breached your memories
Dawn’s light will find your fire dead
Your house relieved of your valuables.
