Monkey Business

 

In the zodiac 2016 is the Year of the Fire Monkey. It begins on February 8^th and ends on 27^th January 2017

The Monkey lucky numbers are: 1, 7.8 Lucky colours: White, Gold and Blue.

The Monkey flower is the Chrysanthemum

 

When we were in Indonesia in 2013 we visit the Ubud Sacred Monkey Sanctuary in Bali

We’d been told that the monkeys would steal our earrings – anything shiny. But it wasn’t like that at all. The young monkeys sat about on the walls and trees like old men chattering to each other.

As we walked we met a couple coming from the Temple who had just been married. The brides in traditional dress looked so beautiful. I asked one of their guests was it OK to wish the bride and groom good luck. It was. I wished them a long and happy life to smiles all around.

We had brought bananas with us. Three monkeys approached us. I held out a banana to the first one. He took it gently enough but held out his hand for another. “Get away, you freed thing,” I scolded.

Richard, Fran and Kim were helpless, laughing. The monkey stood uncertain what to do. Then, I swear, he shrugged and moved off. He was probably thinking. There’ll be another tourist around in a minute.

Monkeys determinately

Set a goal to rob gawkers

Of their gold

Love things that glitter

Bright

Ear rings, brooches baubles

Cunning, arrogant

They swing and swoop

Give the tourist

Such a fright
