Thoughts Of Home

Thoughts of Home

Verse

By Joe O Donnell

Some wonders and some beauty spots

Of this wide world I’ve seen

But none so dear and beautiful

As my homeland in the Breen

It is there the ones I love do dwell

For them each night I pray

And ask the Lord to bless them

And take me back some day

May the boat that takes this note

Across the ocean blue

Tell you if I do not write

I’m not forgetting you

For in my thoughts good and kind

Go far across the foam

To them I left behind

In my Irish

HOME SWEET HOME

My wishes true go with you

To your new home in the Breen

And soon the seas I’ll sail again

To home midst fields of green

I have two pictures in my mind

I can hardly yet decide

To write a poem about the Breen

Or of the old bogside

The old house is the dearest

Where childhood sights I’ve seen

So good luck and every happiness

While dwelling at the Breen

I often roam the jungle

Through the palm trees tall and green

But my thoughts go back to Erin

To my homeland in the Breen
