Winter Will Pass
December enters on the heels of golden leafed November
Falling foliage twirl and play like children in kindergarten enjoying their liberty.
Short days swallow time hurrying us towards the promise of glorious turkey joviality
It too will be golden drenched in gravy brown with
Organic vegetables grown in sacks and window boxes on the side
Jack Frost arrives.
Finger paints hedgerows in beards of white
Footpaths brushed a silvery grey like moonbeams glittering on broken crystal
Festive smells drift on the air.
Old scores set aside temporarily
As folks prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ
Sated with black Friday bargain prices
And merry Christmas tidings of goodwill to all races
January stealthily sidles up
Stretches out her limbs to lengthen February days
Expectations rise to the demise of winter time
Days lose their gloomy look
Smile at the antics of valentine lovers
Spring’s snatches a march on winter’s hostile shudders
