It Christmas time in sunny clims
Santa is spittin’ sweat through his dripping beard
“Why are all the christmay greeting
Of cool snow and winter scenes?
It topping 39 and clamouring for 40”
Santa’s suit of red – a sauna steamy
He flies his sleigh to Glorious Perth
wishes he was on Bondi Beach
Sipping a Pina Colada or
A cool expresso at Café Fresco
To quench his thirst
Give him the edge
keep the flagging hoofs of the reindeers airborne
“A merry Christmas my ass,” he mutters
“False marketing –
That’s what I call this sham doodles.”
Next year I’m off to Ireland
Weather permitting

I know how you feel. It’s bright sunshine and 35 degrees celcius in Durban, SA today. All our Christmas cards are also ones with snow scenes, robins and Santa flying over snow covered mountains on reindeers.
Thanks for your reply, Kim – like your poetry
Perhaps the aussie santa should arrive on Christmas Eve dashing through the sunshine in shorts and a vest top in a swanky santa helicopter named reindeer and fitted with air condetioning ? He would also need his sun cream …..well in some parts anyhow. And I do believe he would enjoy a huge pint of cold beer…..to quench his thirst when delivering to the aussie children. And then there is his beard to be considered? perhaps he could shave it off and all the kids would say “cool santa”. But what kind of santa would that be? nice poem gemma……IT just got me thinking of all the different nationalities in the world and what each santa would look like when fitting in with all the different nationalities their cultures and ways.
